Vinyasa
Dynamic & Fluid: Connecting with the breath
Service Description
Vinyasa yoga, also known as flow yoga, is a dynamic and fluid style of yoga that emphasises the connection between breath and movement. The word "vinyasa" refers to the sequence of poses that are linked together in a flowing manner. Here are some key characteristics and elements of vinyasa yoga: Flow of Movement: Vinyasa yoga sequences are characterised by smooth transitions between poses, often synchronised with inhalations and exhalations. This creates a continuous flow of movement. Breath Synchronisation: Each movement is coordinated with a breath. Typically, upward movements correlate with inhalations, and downward movements correlate with exhalations. This focus on breath helps to maintain a meditative flow. Variety of Poses: Vinyasa offers a wide variety of asana, as there is no fixed sequence. Classes can include standing poses, balancing poses, backbends, forward bends, and inversions. Sun Salutations: A common component of vinyasa yoga is the sun salutation (Surya Namaskar), a series of poses performed in a sequence to warm up the body. Sun salutations are often used as a foundation for building more complex sequences. Strength and Flexibility: Vinyasa yoga builds both strength and flexibility through its varied poses and sequences. The continuous movement helps build endurance and muscle tone. Mindfulness and Focus: The synchronisation of breath and movement helps practitioners stay present and focused. This mindfulness aspect can contribute to reduced stress and improved mental clarity. Dynamic and Energising: Vinyasa yoga is generally more vigorous and energetic compared to some other styles of yoga, such as Hatha or Yin yoga. This makes it a popular choice for those looking for a physically engaging practice. Adaptability: Because of its flexibility in sequencing, vinyasa yoga can be adapted for different levels of practitioners, from beginners to advanced yogis. Modifications and variations can be provided to suit individual needs and abilities. Overall, vinyasa yoga offers a versatile and invigorating practice that promotes physical health, mental focus, and a deeper connection between the mind and body.
